Mexico will admit Venezuelans expelled from the US in exchange for 65 thousand work visas

On the eve of the dialogue between the governments of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Joe Biden, they agreed on a scheme through which the Mexican government will receive Venezuelan migrants expelled from the United States through Title 42, in exchange for which Washington will issue 65,000 immigration visas. temporary work, under the condition that its beneficiaries travel to the neighboring country by air without going through the northern border of Mexico.

According to the agreement, released today by the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Institute of Migration, “Mexico will temporarily allow some people of Venezuelan nationality to enter national territory through the northern border,” and this in continuation with “its unilateral policy of receiving migrants through Title 42 for humanitarian reasons.”

In exchange for receiving more people under Title 42, the United States government accepted the Mexican government’s request to issue an additional 65,000 H-2B work visas for temporary non-agricultural workers, which will have to be supported by “a person or organization based in the United States” and will imply an entry into the country “by air”.

The visa program, which began today, only applies to Venezuelans who arrived in Mexico before this Wednesday, October 12, 2022; Those who enter the country after this day will not be able to submit their application from Mexico.
