A local Wisconsin school board meeting heard two mothers speak out on a vote to ban “political and religious” messaging in classrooms, such as pride, BLM or pro-police flags.
Sarah Leuwerke – a mother of five, including a gay son – argued the move would be a “target on the LGBT community”, and claims the school board itself made it an issue, whereas Amy Richards suggested that “singling out one group of students is concerning.”
“As parents, it’s our responsibility to decide when and how those ideas are introduced. For certain teachers to decide that they’re going to take our role as parents without our involvement has gotten a lot of parents very fired up,” Richards said.
