Paraguay’s Vice President Hugo Velazquez announced he will resign from his post on Friday (12). The decision was made after the Paraguayan was included in a list of restrictions of the United States Department of States.
Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, disclosed on Friday the adoption of visa restriction measures against the Paraguayan vice president “for involvement in significant corruption, including bribery of a public official and interference with public processes.”
The announcement dropped like a bomb in Paraguay and caused Velazquez to resign from the post and abandon his presidential pre-candidacy – he was counting on the support of Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benitez in the internal Colorado Party contest.
