Facebook Terrorism FAILURE: East African IS & al-Shabab Content Escaped Censure

A newly released two-year study has exposed Facebook’s failure to moderate extremist content from Islamic State and al-Shabab terrorist groups aimed at East Africa as Kenyan elections loom.

The report found 445 profiles sharing content linked to the two groups, tagging over 17,000 further accounts, with Facebook failing to pick up on duplicate accounts reposting content after it was taken down.

The Real Facebook Oversight watchdog slammed the inefficiency of the Big Tech platform’s moderation as a “microcosm of everything that’s wrong” with parent company Meta.
